The show opened with Cyanide and Ryan Hunter teaming with RJM to take on James Drake, Barricade – and Drake’s chosen Morecambe trainee – Big Willie Stylez. Stylez received a chorus of boos throughout the match and returned the hatred right back, making for a memorable debut, if for all the wrong reasons.
Ryan Hunter displayed new custom wrestling attire and an array of moves and strikes that shocked “The Leader”. And when RJM and Cyanide were in control, Drake and Barricade left Big Willie like a lamb to slaughter and he was swiftly dispatched by the two veterans.
Result – RJM, Cyanide & Ryan Hunter defeated ‘The Leader’ James Drake, Barricade & Big Willie Stylez by Pinfall.
Next up was the one on one match between Chris Ridgeway and Sam Bailey.
Bailey returned to a fantastic welcome from the Morecambe faithful, but it wasn’t enough. Ridgeway continued to improve and impress. And with a well timed distraction from Greg Lambert, defeated Bailey.
Result – ‘The Priority’ Chris Ridgeway defeated Sam Bailey by Pinfall.
Following the match, Joe Hendry came to the ring, attacked and pinned Sam Bailey to extended his “Hendryfeated Streak”. That was until The Heavyweight house of pain Stixx came out, causing hendry to quickly flee the ring.
Alpha Male Stallion returned and informed Hendry that due to his actions in December and even further back over 2015, he would be punished. This meant that – despite hendry not being ready – Stallion made the title match start, RIGHT NOW!
Alpha Omega Heavyweight Championship – ‘The Heavyweight House Of Pain’ Stixx (c) defeated ‘The Local Hero’ Joe Hendry by Submission to retain the Alpha Omega Heavyweight Championship.
Following the match, Stixx refused to break the submission hold on Joe Hendry and had to be physically pulled away. Showing how far under the champion’s skin Hendry had got. Even worse for the “Local Hero” was that no steward or AOW staff member offered to help him as he limped backstage. Surely a low point for Joe Hendry.
Following the interval, the women showed everyone what they’re capable of in a fantastic tag team battle. Nikki Storm arrived at the arena with Viper’s title belt, and continued to hold it and carry it as if it were her own. Her obsession with the belt would be her downfall, as Carmel Jacob accidentally hit her with it, leading to Lana Austin hitting her ddt and scoring the pinfall.
Result – Lana Austin & Alexis Rose defeated The Referendum (‘The Best In The Galaxy’ Nikki Storm & Carmel Jacob) by Pinfall.
Chris Silvio entered the room, along with his manager Bobby Cash. To say these two were unpopular would be an understatement. Even to the point that his opponent – and at one point most hated man in Morecambe – Craig Kollins received a huge ovation from the crowd!
In a great back and forth match, Kollins proved too much for the OVW Champion and scored another huge win in his young career.
Result – ‘One Man Riot’ Craig Kollins defeated ‘Ultraviolent’ Chris Silvio by Pinfall.
Following the match, Chris Ridgeway attacked Craig Kollins. We will have an update on why and what this means for the two youngsters in the coming weeks.
Johnny Phere came to the ring. He announced that he had nothing left to prove in Morecambe Wrestling and it would be the last time he would appear in front of his faithful fans. Mikey Whiplash then appeared via satellite on the screen. Mikey Whiplash informed Johnny Phere that, despite them both beginning at the same place, Mikey had proved so much more than Phere had. And that if Johnny Phere wouldn’t come out of Morecambe, then he would come there. Whiplash told Phere that it was time for him to face his fear. Johnny Phere accepted the challenge for ‘Morecambe Mayhem’ on March 19th.
The main event of the evening had the massive England v Scotland Street fight for the Alpha Omega Tag Team Championship. With the massive implications that if The Referendum Won, Laird Grayson Is Reinstated, but if Big Sexy Won, Laird Grayson Is Fired.
This match went all over the winter gardens and caused immeasurable damage to all participants. In the end, after handcuffing Mr Big to the ring post, The Referendum wold score the pinfall on Sexy Kev and win the tag team titles.
Result – The Referendum (Liam Thomson & Bobby Roberts) defeated Big Sexxy (Sexy Kev & Mr Big Shaun Vasey) by Pinfall* to win the Alpha Omega Tag Team Championship. *NEW CHAMPION*
Following the match, Laird Grayson appeared from the main entrance. The Referendum handcuffed Sexy Kev before continuing their attack. Stallion ran out and demanded they stop the beat down, then calling out back up in the form of Alpha Omega champion Stixx! Stixx smashed Bobby Roberts in the face with the title belt and hit Liam Thomson with a Stixx Bomb. Then Big Sexxxy & Stixx buried Liam Thomson under the ENGLISH flag!
The Referendum now hold the women’s and tag team championships. They are clearly more successful and powerful than ever. And with Laird Grayson back, who can stop them?
