Ryan Grayson debuted in PAID Promotions back in 2012 when PAID Promotions was a series of student shows run by Johnny Phere with the students of the former XWA academy.
Grayson has been a constant on Morecambe wrestling shows since. He has appeared on every PAID Promotions show since the inaugural show at The Globe Arena in 2013.
In 2014, in the weeks leading up to the Scottish Independence Referendum. Ryan Grayson was in the midst of a losing streak, and faced a young star by the name of Tyler Bate. During this match, BT Gunn, Stevie Xavier and Wolfgang approached the ring, Grayson stole a pinfall victory, and then the four Scots beat down the young wrestler.
This was the birth of The Referendum.
Ever since that date, “Laird” Grayson (as he chooses to be known) has fronted an ever increasing group of Scottish stars in his takeover of Morecambe Wrestling.
Here we sat down with The Edinburgh Elite and asked him a few questions regarding his past, his present, and his future…
AOWUK: Thank you for taking the time to speak to us Laird Grayson, we’re sure you’re very busy.
Laird Grayson: Thank you. While I am a busy man it’s a pleasure to get to read my side of the story without being jeered for sharing my thoughts.
AOWUK: We hope you don’t mind us starting with your debut. How did it feel back in November 2012 being part of the battle royal? And did you ever think back then that you would be such a prominent figure in Morecambe wrestling only a couple of years later?
LG:I think it would be fair to say I was nervous. That nervous feeling disappeared as soon as I walked through the curtain and was given a microphone. Some people use chairs, baseball bats, chains, while the microphone becomes my weapon of choice against my opponents.
Did I think I would become a prominent figure?
In one word…. Yes.
I’m not the biggest, I’m not the strongest. But I’d wager I’m one of, if not THE smartest man to set foot in a Morecambe ring. Given the fact I’m the leader of a Superpower in The Referendum I think that speaks for itself.
AOWUK: Was The Referendum a long term plan that you had?
LG: It shouldn’t surprise anyone to know I’m a very political person. With the Scottish Referendum in September 2014 I saw an opportunity to give more Scottish wrestlers a chance to show Morecambe the talent they have.
I’d been planning it for a long time.
I had been saying for over 9 months that my people were coming, and everyone dismissed me, saying I was talking nonsense. That dismissal stopped when on September 28th 2014 the first wave of The Referendum made their presence felt in dominating fashion.
AOWUK: Some say The Referendum is about politics. Others say it’s purely about power. While a few fans firmly believe it’s all about you personally. What say you?
LG: The Referendum about politics? I sarcastically applaud those who feel this is major news. Of course it’s political. Up until recently, you had a “British Championship” which only the English got a shot at. Is that fair?
Power? It’s very alluring, that I will give you, and yes I would like to see The Referendum in a powerful position going forward.
As for it being all about me, that’s absurd. Everything I have done so far is for the good of The Referendum. Viper, Bobby Roberts and Lewis Girvan to name but a few can show the fans how talented they are, all I am is an advocate for my talented brothers and sisters.
AOWUK: You’ve had a long list of Scottish stars join you in Morecambe, are there any that have stood out to you?
LG: Bobby Roberts and Viper are my standouts so far. Not to take away from any of the others but these two are very important pieces of The Referendum puzzle.
With the most dominant female in Viper and the always reliable Roberts, it’s hard to argue with their success in action so far.
AOWUK: With the promise of tag titles and a womens title coming to Morecambe, do The Referendum have their collective eyes on these prizes?
LG: Do you remember back when I was on my own in singles action and I used to say I was taking the championship back home, north of the border? Well now it won’t just be me but The Referendum and I taking all the titles home. North. Of. The border
AOWUK: What does the future hold for The Referendum, Laird Grayson, and Alpha Omega UK?
LG: The future for The Referendum will see them hold every single championship that Alpha Omega can offer. Our win/loss record is fantastic, our talent is the cream of the crop and I have the vision to make the right moves at the right times.
The future for Laird Grayson will put me down in history as one of the greatest tacticians/masterminds to grace a British Wrestling ring.
As for Alpha Omega, your future will be littered with the broken bodies of the heroes you try and put against us.
AOWUK: Thank you very much for your time, is there anything you’d like to add before we sign off?
LG: Most people would plug their social media, Facebook page, etc. That isn’t me.
Instead, I’ll leave you with these words. Our shiny new era is tiptoeing nearer.
